Fishing for the Right Word..
Andy asks Alta Vista's Babel Fish for some multilingual assistance..

So there I was performing a search for some problematic FreeBSD error, as you do and I came across this forum which looked like it was written is Russian, or some derivative of.

Not to be daunted (I was keen for some kind of solution), I recalled a website run by Alta Vista which offers a page translation service.

The site's called simply Babel Fish Translation and you can chuck in a block of text or simply paste the whole URL of the page to be 'translated'.

I hadn't got many hits for my query so here follows the general gist of the forum conversation according to Babel.

Oh, the original problem was that FreeBSD 6.1 was giving me some weird error on bootup, concerning a Realtek gigabit Ethernet card..

"re0: 2 link states coalesced"

Yes, that was Coalesced. Coalesced! What have they got poets writing their bloody error messages now!? As you'll see, I didn't get a solution but the following translated response is definitely as obscure and ethereal ('scuse the pun) as the original error message..

So there you go. I know, defies belief doesn't it. I'm sure it's supposed to be an attempt at a serious (if literal) translation. Definitely gets funnier the more glasses of wine you drink.

Weird thing is, I can imagine these blokes speaking in English just like this, with their weird movie-style Ukranian dialects and broken accents, waving their Uzi submachine guns in a menacing Eastern-Block Mafiosi fashion. It's just beautiful. Didn't get a solution, but I pissed my pants so hard I forgot all about the problem anyway.

You may wish to follow the original forum link yourself (such as it is) which is located at http://forum.tsure.ru. Copy and paste the full URL into the babel 'translator' (I use the term in its loosest sense) linked at the top o' the article, for the full impact.

Oh..and if anybody does find a solution to my error message, I'd LOVE to hear from you.

Preferably in English..
